Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

In loving memory of those lost but not forgotten:

Captain Jack Sparrow–

Jack or “Captain Jack Sparrow” was our faithful boy; always the one to follow us around the house or yard and give unconditional love and wags.  He was completely loyal as the first to greet us and our guests and always wanting to show us his stuffed turtle whenever we came home.  If strangers were in the yard or on the street he would bark to let us know as he tried his best to protect us.  He LOVED to bathe in the sun and would often stay outside when the others would run for the air conditioning.  He was our most low maintenance dog; always relaxed and mellow.  Jack had a secret love of Utz cheese balls and would get them as a special treat – his unique way of crunching them always made us laugh!  Jack had such a sweet face and when he would look at you from across the room it would melt your heart.  We know he had a happy life full of love and the joy he brought to ours will fill our hearts forever.

Norman – Age: 7

Norman was born on May 9, 2003. I adopted Norman from the Humane Society of Dayton, Ohio on Nov. 6, 2005. Norman and his sister Reese came with me when I moved to DC in 2009. Here he received even more love from his new dad John. I got to enjoy 5 wonderful years with Norman. He loved his stuffed toys! He would carry them with him everywhere. He was always so gentle with them as well. I almost never had to replace any of them from wear. Norman also LOVED people. Even at the dog park he would run from person to person to get petted instead of paying attention to the other dogs. He loved playing and rolling in the snow as well. We had so much fun last winter during the blizzards here in DC. He would roll in the snow making doggy style snow angels and just run and play and play. He was was our best buddy...our cutie pop...and we miss him so much. Thank you again for making a tribute to him. I'm sure he would have loved it!

Silas – Age: 13

Silas was, in my opinion, the best companion I could ever have. He inspired me to write a children’s book. He gave me courage to travel to foreign lands because I knew I would never be alone. He gave me comfort knowing someone would always be home. He gave me pleasure and joy, especially with his stealing foods shenanigans and tricks. He gave me warmth, sharing my bed or the sofa under a blanket. He gave me security. He dictated my way of life. How many people can say they purchased a home to accommodate their dog? When we first rescued Silas he suffered terrible nightmares, where he would cry out and his body would thrash. I often wondered what type of racing and winning. His feet would wiggle in mock runs and he would be smiling. This continued until the day he died, his sleep was rewarded with happy running dreams. He had a good run in life, literally and figuratively. He was a chapter of my life I will cherish forever.

(To Sharon who loved Silas very dearly- We thank you for sharing.)

Silas was very sweet and gently boy, loved being outside with his cute coat on. He loved the smelled of breath and the shine sunny days. Silas was a very friendly dog who loved children and loved his cousin KC and the dog next door neighbor. After his walk I would kiss Silas on his forehead and give him treats. I miss him so much but I know he is in a better place looking after us.  Renee
